Fun with Doughnuts

My youngest son turned seven two weeks ago and we just had a party for him yesterday. We only invited eight friends but with siblings and a few extra kids, we had 13 young, energetic and loud children in our very small home. We came up with a few party games that we thought they like. The biggest hit: doughnuts on a string. We also had any bubble gum blowing contest ( seven-year-olds can’t blow bubbles), and a decorate your-own-cupcake event. Also fun.

  1. This is a very cute story…but 7-yr-olds can’t blow gum bubbles? Did I read that right? Well, then…you probably haven’t seen these pre-K tots from the YouTube galaxy:

I found them while searching for bubble gum video material online; I’m a historian on it and who has been fascinated with it for most of my life (I learned how to inflate gum myself (biggest bubble ≈ 26”) via a 1952 Beverly Cleary story entitled “Henry Gets Rich”.
